We Meet in the Water is a black and white body of work which documents women who cold-water swim across the UK. After discovering a women only cold-water swimming group, I witnessed first hand the joy and connection between the women in the water and so I joined multiple collectives who met regularly to swim. I found these groups provide women not only with a sense of safety but also comfort, allowing them to be entirely immersed and enjoy the exhilarating experience together. For many women, cold-water swimming isn't a sport, it becomes about the ritual of controlling the breath and offers a grounding moment away from daily life.
This series of work explores the importance of these groups and why they exist, highlighting the ability of the water to bring moments of peace and connect women through shared experiences. It features a range of women, from those closest to me to women I met briefly to swim and speak with but is ultimately a testament to all women who come together in the cold water.
